MOTOR TRANSPORT UNIT  

I N T R O D U C T I O N 

MTO UNIT looks after the function of the allottement and maintance of all motor vehicles of this department. Drivers to run the vehicle are working under the control of this unit. History sheet for all vehicles is maintained. Conditions of all vehicles are periodically checked and periodical reports were sent to DGP through SP MT inclusive of fuel consumption and check on fuel allotments. This unit manages all affairs relating to the allottemnet of vehicles for all bandobast arrangements as per bandobast schemes in liaise with ather departments through Government Automobile workshop and government as per the time-to-time instructions of Superior Officers. The Puducherry Police Motor Unit is housed in the first floor of the DGP Quadrangle. The drivers’ rest room is situated at SSP (C&I) Quadrangle. 

MINI WORKSHOP  

This unit has a Mini Workshop is located at the Police Complex, Gorimedu. It is approximately 6 kms. far from the Police Head Quarters, Puducherry. There are 3 HCs (Mechanic), 3 PCs (Helper), 3 PCs (Electrician), and 3 HGs attending urgent minor repairs of the Police vehicles. The major repairs and the replacement of spares etc., of the Police vehicles are being carried out by the Govt. Automobile Workshop, Puducherry.  

VEHICLE

The Police Department has total No. of 135 Light, Medium and Heavy vehicles so far. 29 four wheelers are petrol out of 135 and the remaining 106 are diesel vehicles. Among these vehicles, our department has recently bought One medium vehicle in the name of VAJRA and One heavy vehicle in the name of VARUN Water Cannon for dispersing unlawful assembly wherever take place in Puducherry region. Two new Qualis are attending L.G’s Escort and Pilot duties respectively. A new Qualis is at C.M’s Escort duties. Four Maruti Gypsy are performing Mobile patrolling duty in Puducherry region under supervision of incharge of Police Control Room, Puducherry and one ambulance is in Pondy and another one is in Karaikal at police control rooms for transporting corps relating to police cases. One mobile Forensic Van is at Finger Print Bureau. Two Crane and one ambulance are at Traffic Police Station for traffic regulation and emergency case respectively and two Bullet proof Car is at SIGMA (Security) Unit for the purpose of VVIP & Z+ category during Pondy visit so far.           

 

There are 208 Motor cycles are in our department and they have been allotted to Police stations, Traffic police station and other units in whole Pondy, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions. So far, 71 TVS Super XL mopeds have been procured and allotted 2 mopeds to each Police Station and 1 moped to each Out-post in whole Puducherry UT for lower subordinates to perform beat and patrol duties. 51 TVS Fiero have been recently procured and they have been allotted to the Police Stations in Urban area.

 

Puducherry Government Petrol Bunk fills petrol and diesel to our department vehicles. We are getting additional vehicles from the other departments of the Puducherry government during bunth, election and festival duties whenever necessary.
